Abstract

The study aimed at analyzing the variation in the economic and social characteristicsof populationin Amman city at the neighborhoods' level, according to the population and housing data based on the population census of 2015. The study also seeks to compare the characteristics of the economic and social ecology of Amman city based on the population census data of 1979 and 2015. To achieve this aim, (38) variables representing the demographic, social and economic characteristics of the population inAmman city were used at the neighborhood'slevel of the (169) neighborhoods of the city. The study used the Rotated Principal Component Analysis of Factor Analysis method usingSPSS program, to define the main factors that explain the spatial variance in the characteristics of the economic and social ecology of Amman city. The results showed that there are two factors contribute in the variance between neighborhoods in Amman City. The first factor, the social factor, explained(56, 8%), while the second factor which called the economic factor Explained (28, 7%) of the variance in the data matrix. The study suggests a room for future research to study the Determinants of the establishment of the neighborhoods in Amman city and to develop a model that has been followed by neighborhoods in its development between past and present.
