Abstract
The study aimed at revealing the reality of the role of Jordanian universities in promoting the academic integrity of faculty members at the Jordanian public and private universities. The study followed the descriptive descriptive method, The study community consists of all members of the teaching staff at the University of Jordan, Hashemite University, Yarmouk University, Zarqa Private University, Petra University, and Middle East University.The sample consisted of (625) faculty members who were selected by using the random stratified method at the University of Jordan, Hashemite University, Yarmouk University, Zarqa University, Petra University and the Middle East University. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire consisting of two main parts was prepared, the first part related to the basic demographic information of the sample, represented by (university, faculty, gender and academic rank). The second part is related to measure the role of Jordanian universities in promoting academic integrity, including 44 items divided into six sub-areas: the field of academic integrity concept and its importance, the field of scientific theft (scientific corruption / theft), the field of scientific research, the field of governance, the field of ethics of academic work / ethics and the field of the reasons for violation of academic integrity. The questionnaire was featured with validity and reliability significance that are accepted. The results showed that the reality of the role of Jordanian universities in promoting academic integrity and in the sub-fields: the field of academic integrity concept and its importance, the field of scientific research, the field of governance, the field of ethics of academic work / ethics and the field of the reasons for violation of academic integrity were with high rating. As for the field of scientific theft (scientific corruption / theft), it was with a medium rating. The results also showed that there are statistical differences in the reality of promoting academic integrity due to the variable of the university type and for the benefit of the private universities. There are also statistical differences due to the academic rank variable between professor on the one hand and professor, assistant professor and associate professor on the other hand, as the differences were in favor of a professor in all fields and in the total rating. Besides, there was the absence of statistical differences due to the impact of the type of faculty and gender in all areas and in the total rating. The study recommends the need to strengthen academic integrity at the Jordanian universities.
