Abstract

Soil reinforcement is a modern and specialized soil improvement field. It includes a variety of procedures involving the placement of inclusions in soil. The majority of research has been conducted without respect to the fundamental features of reinforced soil on the behavior of foundations sitting on reinforced soil. As a result, this study provides an laboratory study of the mechanical and compressibility characteristics of a specimen of reinforced silty clay at a medium depth using an environment friendly jute cloth Geotextile (JGT). In addition, the article investigated using finite element computer software the impact of JGT reinforcement on a foundation's carrying capacity resting on silty clay utilizing the finite element computer program Plaxis 2D. Reinforcement's impact on shear failure and shear stress were investigated. The results demonstrate that the addition of such reinforcement enhances the shear strength of the reinforced samples, lowers compressibility and therefore increasing the bearing capacity of reinforced soil under foundations.
