Abstract
This research focuses on the application of an environmental information system to help achieve balance and interrelation between the various environmental standards affecting the selection of the site to the sanitary landfill in the touristic Safaga qism of the Red Sea. According to the sustainable development strategy of Egypt’s Vision 2030, the issue of solid waste is one of the most important environmental challenge that faced sustainable development in Egypt. In light of the increasing number of unauthorized dumps of waste that pollute the environment, the Ministry of Environment adopted a national project to establish a network of sanitary landfills, and Safaga qism was one of the areas in need of establishing a waste landfill in it, due to the environmental problems it suffers from as a result of unauthorized dump fires there and the spread of waste in several dumps, and this It is incompatible with its promising tourist role. Many studies have confirmed that when choosing a sanitary landfill site, spatial environmental standards must be taken into account and the interrelationship between them must be achieved due to their different effects on the success of the waste landfill or not. Therefore, environmental information systems (EIS) were used, that are currently a global trend, aiding in the management of data related to various aspects of the environment, contributing to environmentally conscious planning decisions. That through the application of geographic information systems (GIS) as a tool to achieve correlation between environmental studies and achieving the requirements and standards specified for the waste law. Then finding the appropriate areas to establish the sanitary landfill Safaga qism.
