Abstract
For thousands of years, primitive man has painted on his face and body. Colors were a very clear symbol of love, sex, death, eternity, joy and sorrow. This man, without knowing, was writing the history of make-up and its future today, which became a science.Man has always tried to draw some expressions on his face before putting masks on them, and perhaps he started with making masks then moved to painting on his face, and then switched to the carving of external parts and installed them on the human body in complicated and multiple steps process. The relationship between the mask, the make-up and the art of sculpture appear in all cases. The clothes, makeup and masks are among the oldest elements in the art of drama. Since ancient times, make-up was used for decoration and to represent the various characters on the stage. The main purpose of makeup and masks was to disguise. In different make-up process, materials and techniques varied, which clearly show the close connection between the designer sculptor and the make-up artist. In which, some special roles require more complex means than makeup based on colors such as man in aging, or enlargement of any part of the face or body in general, or making burns effect on the skin or wounds or deep scars. So we have special and unusual roles that require the use of unusual makeup methods or what is known as 3D makeup, through which you can add some of the carved pieces to the body with the choice of material suitable for each case. Therefore, the makeup artist should study and know the different methods and materials used in making molds and hard and soft copies, and different between them and the appropriate time to use each material. Also he should study methods to sculpt different parts of the face and body, and must also study the composition of the face and know the different techniques to work on any part of the face. At the end, it is possible to say that there is a close relationship between the work of the sculptor and the makeup artist because of the remarkable development in the technology of the industry and the application of makeup, especially what is known as the special makeup effects, which confirms that it is indispensable to study sculpture and knowledge of all avenues to work in this area.
