La parodontite agressive et sa prévalence

Abstract

The objective of our retrospective study is to determine the prevalence of aggressive periodontitis at the Periodontology Department of the « Faculté de Médecine Dentaire » (FMD) at the « Université Saint-Joseph » (USJ) between September 2004 and July 2007. A research using the data software of the FMD was performed to identify the exact number of patients suffering from aggressive periodontitis and the total number of patients having visited the Department of Periodontology during these three years. Among 3 793 patients treated, 49 were diagnosed with aggressive periodontitis. Therefore, the prevalence is 1.29% with a confidence interval at 95% of [0.93% - 1.65%]. However, it is important to note that this result does not represent the exact prevalence of aggressive periodontitis in Lebanon. In the prospect of having a study that addresses the prevalence of aggressive periodontitis on the national scale and not be limited to a sample seeking dental care, our study remains the only one treating this subject in Lebanon.
