Abstract

The article aims to discover the media ethics and laws in the environment of digital communication platforms, the level of commitment to media publishing charters and laws, and to the impact of commitment on the individual and society. The article adopted the qualitative approach through analysis and comparison, using a study case of media ethics and laws in Jordan. To present objective perception and vision, the researchers used the semi-structured interview as a tool to collect data from five experts specialized in media and law about media ethics and legislation in the digital environment in Jordan. The article concluded that the new digital environment imposed a unique communicative reality that requires a set of ethical and legal controls and standards for publishing. It was also found that the level of application of digital publishing ethics is weak due to its subjection to moods. The communicative openness brought about by communication technology has caused many manifestations of disruption in the digital content. In Jordan, explicit legal articles have been developed to regulate and control digital publishing with regard to social networks and websites. Among the challenges facing the ethics and legislation of media and digital publishing: the challenge of willingness and desire, the challenge of knowledge, and the weakness of media education for individuals in dealing with publishing and digital content. Among the most prominent treatments referred to by media and law experts, is the promotion and encouragement of the importance of voluntarily applying professional ethics, and holding training courses for workers in various media, especially digital media.
