Communication of Aesthetic Styles in the Novel: The Syrian Novel as a Model

Abstract

This study aims at studying the communication of arts in the novel from an artistic aesthetic view. This emulation of the aesthetic styles of other arts in the novel included objective dramatic or lyrical styles. Having this in mind, we can look at the novel and the communication of arts from different perspectives taking some Syrian novels as examples for application. Therefore, this study has put some standards for its understanding of aesthetic styles, in which it has found that the three well-known compilation of aesthetic categories (dramatic, epic or narrative, lyrical) can be considered a measure of specific expressive styles for each aesthetic category which differs according to the source of its artistic expression, its relationship to the subject of its expression and the methods of its presentation. Furthermore, this study has found that when searching in the narrative aesthetic expressive style, this style is linked within the aesthetic and style classification to the narrators position in a specific way while narrating which leads to the selection of different ways in the treatment of the novelistic subject matter, presentation and expression. This study has concluded that communicating this style with the aesthetic styles of other arts- such as theatre, cinema and poetry- affect the narrators presence in the novel, forms of presence and kinds of focalization. This effect extends to the narrative novel, its relationship to its narration and the styles of its narration and treatment. As a result, this requires identifying the novelists identity in the novel, presence, types of presence and relationship to the narration in order to identify the effect of communicating the novel with the other aesthetic styles of the narrative domain trying to set indicators for communicating the novel with each aesthetic style, so that they can be used in identifying and analyzing communication in other novelistic texts. Moreover, this study aims at setting specific description for communication in order to avoid abstract ideas and subjectivity, so that it can be used as a guide for identifying communication in novel along with other aesthetic styles.
