Abstract

The current research aimed to identify the concept and dimensions of tolerance and its values, and the role that Saudi women play in raising their children on a culture of tolerance and rejection of violence and extremism. With the aim of presenting a proposed vision for the mechanisms of education on the values of tolerance in an effort to develop and strengthen these values among children and to identify the most important ingredients and principles necessary for the success of women in this role. The descriptive analytical approach was used, based on monitoring the elements of the phenomenon and subjecting them to analysis and interpretation. A questionnaire was designed consisting of a number of paragraphs covering three sub-dimensions (tolerance with self - tolerance with the other - renunciation of violence and extremism). Psychometric characteristics were calculated and verified to be applicable to the sample under study. The tool was applied to a sample of 141 students/mothers from the College of Science and Arts in Qurayyat at Al-Jouf University. The research came with a set of results, the most important of which are: There is a clear interest in educating children on tolerance and rejection of violence and extremism. This indicates that the orientation of mothers/students when educating for tolerance is mainly focused on cultivating self-tolerance, followed by renunciation of violence and extremism, and finally tolerance with the other. The study concluded with a vision of a proposed model for education on tolerance that can be applied to Al-Jouf region in particular and to Saudi society in general.
