Abstract

The study aims at testing the effectiveness of a proposed training program in the development of knowledge related to the teaching of the Holy Qur'an by teachers of Islamic education. It also aims at revealing the effectiveness of a proposed training program in the development of the teaching of the Quran by the teachers of Islamic education. In order to achieve this, an analytical test of the cognitive aspect related to Holy Quran teaching and a list of 8the Islamic Education teachers’ skills of teaching Holy Quran, were prepared. The test and the skills list included four dimensions: (planning, implementing, and assessing). Moreover, the proposed training program was prepared and the study tools (pre, post) were applied in the second semester of the academic year 1439-1440 AH. The study sample consisted of 24 Islamic Education teachers, who were chosen randomly from the Laith Governorate. The study resulted in the following.

There is a statistically significant difference among the average scores of group of the teachers (the trainees in the program) in the pre and post measurement of the analytical test. This significant difference is in the total of the post-planning questions, the total of the post-implementation questions, the total of the post-assessment questions as well as in the total of teaching Quran as whole by the teachers of Islamic Education. The statistically significant difference was in favor of the post-implementation. Using the training program was of high effectiveness in increasing the gaining scores of the total analytical test questions. The Blake’s gain ratios were (1.54).

Furthermore, there is a statistically significant difference among the average scores of the group of teachers (the trainees in the program) in the questionnaire in each of: the total of the post-planning skills, the total of the post-implementing skills, the post-assessing skills, and in the total of teaching the Holy Quran in whole by the teachers of Islamic Education. The statistically significant difference was in favor of the post-implementation. Using the training program was of high effectiveness in increasing the gaining scores of the skills questionnaire. The Blake’s gain ratios were (1.86).

In addition, the study recommended that teachers of Holy Quran be urged to cultivate their Holy Quran teaching skills by using all the available technologies and means. It also urges them to get continuous and effective training, and to build standard criteria for these training programs.
