Abstract

The study aims at identifying the extent of integrating concepts of sustainable development in the books of computer and information technology in the secondary stage in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia through making a list of sustainable development's concepts that should be included in the content of the books. To achieve this goal, the researcher used the descriptive analytical method. A list of the concepts of sustainable development with its social, economic and environmental dimensions was made and it included (30) concepts. Then, a content analysis tool was made, which included (85) indicators distributed on the concepts. The Population Study represents the books of computer and information technology for the secondary stage (curriculum system) in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the sample of the study was in the book of computer and information technology (2), scheduled for the students in the second year in secondary stage (curriculum system) in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the academic year of 1439/1440 H, which was chosen intentionally.

After monitoring the iterations and calculating percentages, the study found that the percentages of the dimensions of sustainable development in the content of the book were not balanced. The concepts of the social dimension of sustainable development came first, with a total of (285) iterations and a percentage of (19.70%), followed by the concepts of the economic dimension of sustainable development with a total of (85) iterations and a percentage of (5.90%). The concepts of the environmental dimension ranked last with a total number of (6) iterations and a percentage of (0.41%), the inclusion of the total concepts of sustainable development was low, with a total of (376) iterations and a percentage (26%). In light of the results of the study, the researcher made a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: The necessity to make balance of the proportions of integrating the dimensions of sustainable development into book of Computer and Information Technology (2). In addition to directing the experts of education and curriculum developers to take advantage of the results of the current study; to include the concepts of sustainable development in the books of computer and information technology in particular, and the rest of the textbooks in general.
