Abstract
This research aims at studying method of Caliph Umar bin Al- Khattab -may Allah be pleased with him- in handling crises, through examining a crisis occurred in his succession, namely: year of Ramada crisis. The researcher attempted to highlight the concept and nature of the crisis from Islamic point of view, and figuring out position and method of Umar in making use of the crisis and shifting it from a disaster to bestowal, in addition to clarifying benefits and advantages of his approach dealing with the dilemma. It worth mentioning that this sort of crisis management is very rare and Umar’s way and method of handling it is unique. It is rarely to exist in any society other than the Islamic community due to the fact that Umar relied on a bunch of systems, technics, values and ethics derived from revelation, with its sections: the recitals: Qur’an and Sunna and the observable and perceivable: the universe.
The research concluded that crisis management is something new as a terminology, yet, as concept, it is indeed existed long ago, and it has presence in the Prophetic Sunnah.
