Abstract
This study presents a reading in the novel “Drew a Line in the Sand”, written by the Syrian novelist Hani Al-Rrahib, a reading on two topics forming an outstanding theme in modern Arabic narration. The first deals with the impact of “Oil” in Arab life, focusing on the negative effects of Modernism. The second sheds light on the new imperialism which tries to divide the Arab world into weak and unstable states. It condemns Western behavior toward Arab nations regarding the benefit of Israel. All of this is introduced in a direct way
