Abstract

The current study aimed to examining the effectiveness of counseling program based on dialectical behavioral therapy (DPT) in Reducing Impulsivity among borderline personality disorder (BPD) in Jordan. The semi-experimental approach was adopted to apply the study and a sample consisting of (30) people diagnosed with the borderline personality disorder (BPD) was selected and randomly distributed to an experimental group by 15 individuals, and a control group by 15 individuals. To achieve the objectives of the study, a scale for the Impulsivity was prepared and it consisted of (21) items distributed to three fields (Urgency, Sensation Seeking , and lack of Perseverance). To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher prepared the training program as well as the scale as tools for data collection from the study sample. After confirming the validity and reliability of the tool, the study concluded that there are statistically significant differences at sig. (α≤0.05) due to the group in the post-test for the dimensions of the Impulsivity scale according to the variable of the group in favour of the experimental group and no statistically significant differences at sig. (α ≤0.05) among the means of the scores of the experimental group on the Impulsivity scale in the pre and post tests for the dimensions of (Urgency, Sensation Seeking, and lack of Perseverance). According to the conclusions, the researcher recommends setting treatment training programs based on theDialectical Behavior Therapy - DBT to alleviate the behavioral problems and give positive behaviors to the patients to reduce Impulsivityamong people with the Borderline personality disorder (BPD). This is‏ to support their psychological and social compatibility and help and train them on the steps and skills of self-control and control of emotions.
