Abstract

This study aimed to compare the distribution of levels of (Van Healy) of geometric thinking among students and classroom teachers in formal education and open education, including students of (UNRWA) (UNR WA) (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees), the research sample consisted of (158) Male and female student teachers registered in the fourth year (males and females) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Damascus. The researcher used the (Van Healy) test for geometric thinking with a coefficient of stability according to Cronbach's Alpha = 0.82 in the Syrian environment.

The results of the study showed that the distribution of the levels of (Van Healy) for geometric thinking differs among students and classroom teachers in formal education from its distribution in open education, but in a way that remains close to the global results. The results also showed the existence of a statistically significant difference between the average scores of students and classroom teachers in both formal education and open education on the (Van Healy) test for good geometric thinking of open education students (actually practicing teaching), and also showed that there is a statistically significant difference between the average scores of students. Syrian teachers and (UNRWA) students (in open education) for choosing (Van Healy) for engineering thinking in favor of (UNRWA) students.

The results of the research also showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the average scores of Syrian teacher students in formal education and Syrian teacher students in open education on the Van Healy test for geometric thinking. Healy) for engineering thinking in the college group and in both formal and open education.

In light of the study results, the researcher presented a set of suggestions and recommendations.
