Abstract

Abstract The research aims to determine the values of citizenship in the developed educational curricula by analyzing the objectives and content of "social studies" curriculum and "Arabic my language" in each of the fifth and sixth grades (as a sample for analysis). The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach by using content analysis method to achieve the previous aim. This required the preparation of a list of the dimensions of citizenship and its values derived from each dimension and that must be available in the curricula of the first cycle, and to use them as a tool for analysis after verifying their validity and reliability. The results showed the following: - As for the content of the social studies curriculum: the content of this curriculum included the values of citizenship with a percentage of (54.65%), while the content of the curriculum itself for the sixth grade included the values of citizenship with a percentage of (80.61%). - As for the content of "Arabic My Language" curriculum: the content of the Arabic book My Language for the fifth grade included the values of citizenship by 38.99%, while the Arabic curriculum for my language for the sixth grade included the values of citizenship by (49.04%). The repetitions of the units of analysis in the books of the analysis sample focus on the values themselves without other values, such as: pride in cultural heritage, pride in the Arabic language, cooperation, environmental responsibility, and belonging to the homeland. - Low frequencies and percentages of some citizenship values in the content of all analyzed books, such as: equality, rejection of discrimination, peace andove of the homeland, defending the homeland, and appreciating martyrdom and martyrs. -The researcher suggested taking into account the balance and comprehensiveness between the dimensions of citizenship and its sub-values in the curricula of the first cycle of basic education, and not neglecting any of them, and adopting the list of citizenship values prepared by the researcher in evaluating and developing curricula in a way that contributes to strengthening the role of curricula in developing the values of citizenship. .
