Abstract
The study aimed to analyze the content of the basic eighth grade social studies book in light of the general objectives of its teaching. The study followed the descriptive analytical approach. To achieve the study aims, the researchers prepared a list of sub-indicators for each goal in addition to the content analysis tool. The study found that the first aim is providing students with basic knowledge and skills and positive trends that enable them to understand human and social relations is the most popular, and the eleventh aim, which is to provide students with positive values and trends towards the individual society were the least popular. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommended the necessity of reformulating the general objectives of teaching social, historical and geographical studies more clearly, and making a balance in the ratios of including the general objectives of teaching social studies in the basic eighth grade social studies book, and distributing them over both semesters.
