Abstract

The present study aimed to verify the psychometric properties of the teacher version of the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire(SDQ) on a non-clinical Jordanian Children in the age group (4-5) years, as it helps in detection of mental disorder that afflict children. To achieve this purpose a sample of (788) children was selected from the kindergartens. Factor analysis with Varimax rotation was conducted, as five factors were confirmed which accounted 52.71% of the total variance. However, it was noted a differences in the items load on the factors. Based on that, a factor analysis was conducted by fixing the factors to only three factors, as it was noted that the psychometric properties became better compared with the five-dimension questionnaire with some exceptions for some items. The concurrent validity with the Early Development Instrument (EDI) was achieved, and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.73.Based on that, the study recommends to conduct other studies by utilizing a clinical samples and another age groups as well as verification of the psychometric properties of the parents and self –rating versions of the questionnaire.
