Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the degree of practicing academic freedom by the faculty members at the University of Jordan from their point of view. The descriptive survey approach was used. The study sample consisted of (445) males and (155) females in 50% of study community for the year 2017/2018.

To achieve the objective of the study, a study tool was constructed in form of questionnaire consisting of (50) items distributed over (5) areas : freedom of teaching, freedom of expression, freedom of participating in making decisions, freedom of scientific research and community service. The results of the study showed that practicing academic freedom by the faculty members at the University of Jordan from their point of their was medium. Also, it was revealed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05 ≥α) attributed to the gender variable. In addition, there were statistically significant differences in exercising the academic freedom by the faculty members at the University between (professor) and (associate professor) on one hand, and (assistant professor) on the other hand in favor of the highest rank.
