Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to identify the impact of Internet use on the development of professional performance of English language teachers according to sex, academic qualification, and training courses. This study was conducted on a random sample of 90 teachers in Irbid Directorate (37 males and 53 females), who voluntarily participated to complete the questionnaire. The results showed that the mean scores of design and implementation skills among teachers using the Internet were significantly higher than the average scores reported by the general population. Also, the use of Internet significnalty contributed to teachers’ professional growth. However, the results showed no significant differences at (α = 0.05) for the study fields and the total score according to the variables (sex, academic qualification, and teaching experience). The researcher recommended the need for developing the professional performance of English language teachers as a major source of basic teaching and learning to enhance their educational roles and fulfill the requirments of today’s teaching styles.

ملخص: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف إلى أثر استخدام الإنترنت في تطوير الأداء المهني لمعلمي اللغة الإنجليزية من وجهة نظرهم وفقاً لمتغيرات الجنس والمؤهل العلمي والدورات التدريبية. طُبقت هذه الدراسة على عينة عشوائية مكونة من (90) معلما ومعلمة من معلمي اللغة الإنجليزية للمرحلة الأساسية في مديرية اربد الثانية, بواقع (37) معلما و(53) معلمة, وتم استخدام الاستبانة أداة لجمع البيانات. أظهرت النتائج وجود درجة مرتفعة لإستخدام الإنترنت في إكساب المعلمين مهارة التصميم والتنفيذ وكانت درجة الاستخدام دالة إحصائيّاً, ووجود درجة متوسطة لإسهام الإنترنت في إكساب المعلمين النمو المهني وكانت درجة الاستخدام دالة إحصائيّاً, أما فيما يتعلق بالمتغيرات فقد أظهرت نتائج الدراسة عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية عند مستوى الدلالة (α=0.05) لمجالي الدراسة والدرجة الكلية وفق متغيرات (الجنس, الخبرة التدريسية, المؤهل العلمي, والدورات التدريبية في اللغة الإنجليزية), ويوصي الباحث بضرورة تطوير الأداء المهني لمعلمي اللغة الإنجليزية للقيام بأدوارهم التعليمية بكفاءة وفاعلية كمتطلب أساسي من متطلبات العصر.
