Abstract
This study aimed at manifesting the role of Al – Quds Open Universityin developing the Palestinian society. It also explained the circumstancesin which the University was established to be a response to the challengesto which the Palestinian society was exposed. Moreover, it highlighted theeffective roles which the University played at the level of higher educationin Palestine and in the development of the Palestinian society at both theeconomic and social levels. In so doing the study pinpointed the role of theuniversity in educating adults, women and developing the competencies ofPalestinian employees. It, furthermore, showed how the University alleviatedthe financial pressure shouldered by the University enrollees. In addition,the study elaborated on how the University managed to provide highereducation to all locations and areas in Palestine including the remotest ones.At the same time it elaborated how the University was able to achieve theprinciple of democracy of education through giving access to education toall Palestinians
