Abstract

This study aimed at investigating the reality of practicing knowledge management in the public schools from the perspective of the principals in Bethlehem Governorate. It also examined the impact of the variables of gender, school’s level (primary- secondary) , school’s location, and the academic qualifications on the principals’ perspectives in Bethlehem schools in regard to the application of knowledge management. For the data collection, the researcher developed 49 items questionnaire distributed under three domains: Recognition of knowledge management concept and its importance, the degree of application of the knowledge management at schools, and obstacles of knowledge management application at schools. The questionnaire was administered to a simple random sample of 37 secondary school principals in Bethlehem governorate. The researcher used the descriptive analytical method for its relevance to the subject of the study. To test the validity of the study the researcher submitted it to a committee of referees. The validity coefficient was verified and tested through the Cronbach’s Alpha equation on the questionnaire domains. The total score of validity was 0. 95. After data collection and analysis, the researcher concluded the following findings: The degree of the public secondary school principals’ agreement with the application and recognition of knowledge management at Bethlehem secondary schools was high. The domain of obstacles scored a medium degree among the principals. The percentage of the response to the total score was 76. 60%. There were no statistically significant differences at a=0.05 among the school principals, attributed to the variables of gender, level of the school, academic qualification and school’s location. The researcher concluded the paper with seveal recommendations, most importantly, conducting more research, especially on the application of knowledge management in private schools in Bethlehem governorate.
