Abstract

This study aimed at detecting the level of taking selfie pictures among Yarmouk University students. A selfie scale was developed after verifying its psychometric features. The study sample consisted of 1720 male and female students. Study findings showed that taking selfie had a medium level. In addition, significant differences were found regarding the level of taking selfie in the total score of the scale and in the dimensions of salience use and mood modification, attributed to gender, in favor of the males, and in the attracting attention dimension, in favor of the females. Significant differences were also found in the level of taking selfie, attributed to GPA, in favor of high GPA. Moreover, differences were found within the whole scale and in all its dimensions, attributed to the majoring in a scientific field variable. However, no significant differences were found, attributed to the university year level and place of residence.
