Abstract

This study aimed at explaining the concept of family counselor along with its relevant terminology, as well as identifying the qualifications of the family counselor. In order to achieve the study’s objectives, the researches followed the analytical inductive approach and the deductive approach. The study revealed several conclusions as follows, according to the Islamic educational perspective, the family counselor is defined as a qualified person who helps all the family members in different forms and from various aspects (preventive, interactive, therapeutic, and supplementary) all is carried out based on Islamic texts. The family counselor possesses personal and vocational qualifications. Personal qualifications encapsulates the moral and the psychological qualifications. On the other hand, the vocational qualifications includes the relevant academic skills and qualifications. The study recommends the need to conduct more studies on the characteristics of the counselor from the Islamic educational perspective in general. In addition, the study recommends conducting comparative studies to compare the perspectives of the western studies and the Islamic ones towards the concept of the family counselor.
