Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of using whatsApp on the development of self-learning skills for non-native Arabic speakers at the University of Jordan. The study consisted of (25) students from two divisions randomly selected from the third level of non-Arabic speakers at the Language Center at the University of Jordan, 11 of whom were the experimental group while the rest were the control group. The study tool, which was based on the self-learning skills scale, was prepared and verified.

The results showed that there was a significant difference between the mean scores on the self-learning skills scale, due to teaching method in the favor of the experimental group. There were also significant differences between the mean scores on the dimensions of the four self-learning skills: organizational, mentoring, control, use of learning resources, and self-assessment due to the teaching method in the favor of the experimental group. The researchers recommended employing WhatsApp application in the development of self-learning skills among non- native Arabic speakers.
