Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the working memory capacity and its relation to mental rotation among female students of university college Ranyah in Taif University. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used the working memory capacity scale, "listening period test," and the mental rotation test. The sample of the study consisted of 474 female students of university college Ranyah in Taif University. The results of the study showed that the level of working memory capacity among female students was high, and the level of ability of mental rotation was high as well. The results indicated that there were differences between the arithmetical averages of the responses of female students on the working memory capacity scale and the mental rotation test due to the variable type of college, in favor of the scientific colleges. There were differences between the arithmetical averages of the responses of female students on the working memory capacity scale, due to the academic year variable, between the first year on one hand and the third and fourth year on the other hand, in favor of the latter. There were also differences between the second year and the third year, in favor for the latter. There were no differences between the arithmetical averages of the responses of female students on the mental rotation test due to the academic year. Moreover, there were no differences between the arithmetical averages of the responses of female students on the working memory capacity scale and the mental rotation test, due to the variables of type of college and the academic year combined. The results also showed that there was a positive correlation between the estimates of the female students on the scale of working memory capacity and their estimates on the mental rotation test.
