Abstract

The study aimed at examining the effectiveness of a counseling program, based on the Rational Emotional Behavioral Therapy, in reducing generalized anxiety among adolescents who experienced house detention in Jerusalem. The study sample consisted of 30 adolescents, who experienced house detention in Jerusalem, within the age group of 15- 18 years old. The sample was divided into two groups, an experimental group which included 15 adolescents, who received a training program consisting of 10 sessions, and a control group which included 15 adolescents who did not receive the counselling program. The scale of generalized anxiety was administrated to both groups as pre- and post-tests. follow-up measures were given to the experimental group four weeks after the end of the program. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in generalized anxiety, in favor of the experimental group. The results of the study also indicated that the impact of the program on the experimental group lasted for 4 weeks after the end of the program.
