Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the impact of a training program based on mental imagery on developing reading comprehension skills among seventh grade students in Jordan. A sample of 80 male students were selected, 42 of which were randomly assigned to experimental group whereas 38 were assigned to control group, at Bilal Ibn Rabah Basic School which is affiliated to the Directorate of al-Qweismeh. A test for examining reading comprehension was developed and given to students in both groups prior and post implementing the program. The training program based on mental imagery consisted of 18 training sessions and was applied only on the experimental group. The study found that the training program had a significant positive impact on the total and sub-tests of the reading comprehension test in favor of the experimental group. The study recommended the necessity for providing the training of mental imagery and the need for conducting further research on the impact of mental imagery in light of other variables.
