Abstract

This study aimed at exploring the concepts of digital citizenship that need to be included in the national and civic curricula of primary education from the perspective of social studies teachers in Jordan. The study also aimed at identifying the concepts that should be taught at each educational level/stage from the teachers’ perspective. To achieve the objectives of the current study, a list including the concepts of digital citizenship was given to a panel of referees and experts from Jordanian Universities. The study used quantitative descriptive approach through employing a questionnaire. The sample of the study consisted of 60 female and male teachers who teach textbooks on national and civic education in Directorate of Education at Bany Obaid during the second semester 2016/2017. Results revealed that the concepts that should be included in the curricula of national and civic education from the teachers’ perspectives came in the following order: digital laws of health and safety, digital rights and responsibilities, digital literacy, digital fitness, digital security (self-defence), digital dissemination and eventually digital trade.
