Abstract
Allah made the callers for Him not in need of others; therefore, He ordered all His prophets to work. He did not send His messengers to be a burden upon their people or to benefit from their call to Islam. This would keep them distanced from the people and hinder their message. Allah made His prophets a source of livelihood for their people, not the other way around. The fact that prophets worked for their own living serves as a model of hard work and self-sufficiency for those who came after them. One of the notable characteristics of the prophets (peace be upon them) is that they never relied on their people. The messenger is as far-reaching as the sender, and the Quran and Hadith show the sources of income for the prophets. Our Prophet Muhammad’s financial biography contains more evidence of this than that of the other prophets.
