Abstract

This study aimed to highlight the importance of social support and its relationship with self-determination for disabled students in Jordanian universities. The sample consisted of 275 disabled students from various Jordanian universities. To achieve the study’s objectives, the researcher developed two questionnaires: the Social Support Scale and the Self-Determination Tool. A test was conducted to check the validity and reliability of the tools. The results revealed that social support scores were high, while self-determination scores were moderate. No significant differences were found in social support and self-determination based on gender. However, significant differences were observed in social support and self-determination among physically disabled students. The results also showed no positive correlation or statistically significant differences between social support and self-determination among students with disabilities. Based on these findings, the researcher recommended conducting further correlational studies, particularly exploring social support and self-determination for the families of disabled students and developing related counseling programs.
