Abstract
This study aimed to assess the self-development level among faculty members at northern universities in Jordan from the perspective of their academic department heads. Additionally, it sought to examine the impact of the variables: gender, university ownership, academic specialization, and academic rank on the department heads’ evaluations of the self-development level among faculty members. The sample consisted of 188 department heads selected using simple random sampling. A descriptive analytical methodology was employed, and a questionnaire was used to collect data to achieve the study's objectives. The results showed that the self-development level among faculty members was high. Furthermore, significant differences were found in the department heads' evaluations based on university ownership and academic rank, particularly in private universities and at the assistant rank. However, there were no significant differences based on the variables of gender and academic specialization in the evaluations of academic department heads. Considering the study results, the researchers recommended that faculty members be informed of university regulations and encouraged to diversify their teaching strategies.
