Abstract
This research examines the appropriateness of the speaking activities included in the student’s book Action Pack 9 through content analysis. It aims to analyze the extent to which Action Pack 9 provides suitable speaking activities and to identify the types of speaking activities addressed in the textbook. To answer the main research question, the researcher developed a content analysis sheet designed to examine the appropriateness of the speaking activities in the student’s book in relation to students’ real-life situations, learning levels, and interests. Frequencies and percentages were used to present the results of the analysis. The findings reveal that the textbook includes diverse types of speaking activities that align with the general guidelines and the specific outcomes for speaking. Moreover, the results indicate that these activities are appropriate to students’ real-life situations, learning levels, and interests. Further analysis of speaking skills, along with other skills (listening, reading, and writing), considering additional criteria of analysis such as balance, organization, authenticity, and integration, is recommended.
