Abstract
This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of academic supervision on PhD students from the perspectives of faculty members and students in Jordanian public universities, as well as to identify associated problems and propose a scenario for the development of academic supervision for doctoral students. The study adopted a descriptive analytical methodology. The faculty members supervising the doctoral students at Jordanian public universities included male and female professors, associate professors, and assistant professors, along with doctoral students who were in the preparatory stage of their research projects and academic supervision during the second semester of the academic year 2018/2019. Two questionnaires were distributed to a sample of 600 faculty members and doctoral students. The study concluded that the overall effectiveness of academic supervision by faculty members in Jordanian public universities was assessed to be at a medium level. Similarly, the degree of problems related to academic supervision for postgraduate students was also found to be medium. The study recommends enhancing academic supervision to ensure the successful completion of studies in response to the technological changes and challenges faced by all systems and institutions, particularly educational institutions. Additionally, it suggests making efforts to overcome the difficulties and obstacles faced by both supervisors and postgraduate students, ensuring that the supervision process serves as an indicator of progress and community development.
