Abstract
The study aimed to develop a scale for measuring creative thinking, evaluate its validity and reliability, and apply it to students at the University of Jordan. Two equivalent forms of the scale Form (A) and Form (B) were created, each consisting of 14 questions. The scale was administered to a sample of 73 male and female undergraduate students, who were randomly divided into two groups: 37 students completed Form (A), and 36 students completed Form (B). The results indicated that the scale possesses appropriate psychometric properties. The reliability coefficients, measured by internal consistency, were 0.926 for Form (A) and 0.924 for Form (B). The criterion-related validity index, in relation to the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking, was 0.416. Pearson’s correlation coefficients between the scores on the verbal forms of the two scales were 0.462, and 0.409 for the morphological forms. The validity of the scale was further confirmed through face validity and construct validity. Subsequently, a final version of the scale was developed for the study, consisting of 13 questions. It was applied to a sample of 305 undergraduate students at the University of Jordan, randomly selected. The findings showed that students’ overall level of creative thinking was moderate, with scores indicating an average for total scores, fluency, and flexibility skills, and a weak level for originality. The results also revealed no statistically significant differences in creative thinking related to academic level. However, significant differences were found based on gender, favoring females. Additionally, significant differences were observed concerning faculty affiliation, favoring medical faculties, and based on cumulative average, with higher scores among students with an "excellent" average. The study recommends conducting further research on different age groups and expanding the scope to assess the scale’s validity and reliability across broader populations.
