Abstract

This study aimed to assess the degree to which the Arabic language textbook for the fifth grade in Jordan includes 21st-century digital culture skills. The study sample consisted of all pages of the Arabic language book for the fifth grade, excluding the introduction and the list of references. The study examined 31 digital culture skills for the 21st century, divided into four main areas: Communication and Information Skills, which contained 8 sub-skills and ranked first with a medium degree and a percentage of 43.92%; Self-Reliant Learning, which contained 9 sub-skills and ranked second with a low degree and a percentage of 33.33%; Computing and Information Technology, which contained 7 sub-skills and ranked third with a very low degree and a percentage of 12.94%; and Creativity and Innovation, which contained 7 sub-skills and ranked fourth and last with a very low degree and a percentage of 9.80%. The study revealed an imbalance in the distribution of digital culture skills for the 21st century and recommended that book authors increase their focus on including these digital culture skills in the fifth-grade Arabic language textbook in Jordan in a more balanced manner.
