Abstract

This study aimed to examine the perceptions of secondary school students in Mafraq Governorate towards distance learning and self-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. To achieve this, the researcher designed a questionnaire consisting of 30 items, the validity and reliability of which were confirmed. The questionnaire was distributed to a sample of 582 high school students in Mafraq Governorate. The study adopted a descriptive survey approach. The results indicated that the perceptions of secondary school students in Mafraq Governorate towards distance learning and self-learning during the pandemic were high. Additionally, there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (α = 0.05) in the perceptions of the study sample members due to gender, with females showing more positive perceptions across all fields and the overall score. Differences due to the academic branch were also statistically significant, favoring students in the scientific branch. Moreover, differences related to the students’ grade level were significant, with second-year students showing more positive perceptions. The study also found a direct, positive correlation between distance education and self-learning. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends increasing efforts to implement distance education as a means to develop self-learning skills in all schools across Jordanian governorates.
