Policy and Ethical Guidelines

1. Purpose

Future Journal of Social Science (FJSS) is a journal based in the Faculty of Economics and Political Science – Future University in Egypt. FJSS is published in English, aiming at providing a platform for scholars and researchers to publish their original work in discussing and analyzing current affairs, research and methodological problematics as well as a diverse range of enriching questions in an interdisciplinary nature through the field of social science.

FJSS is published through the Association for Arab Universities (AARU) and sponsored by Elsevier. It is a journal to be published twice annually and does not publish manuscript based on fees by the authors. FJSS follows a double-blinded peer-reviewing process.

3. Who can Submit?

FJSS targets authors on an international level who may wish submit an original manuscript of their work, so as to be considered to publication. The conditions are, the author submitting the manuscript must be the owner with the copyright of the paper, or is authorized by other co-authors to submit the manuscript at our journal. Based on this, authors are the sole owners of the copyright of their papers submitted to be considered for publication.

Authors are welcome to submit their manuscripts to be considered for publication in FJSS as long as they are covering any subfield of social science, with special focus to interdisciplinary research. The edge of accepted papers is that they must have an interdisciplinary nature of studying the topic brought forward by the author(s) in the paper. However, while interdisciplinary research is at the center of FJSS, other papers might also be considered depending on their nature.

4. Who are our Readers?

FJSS targets international, regional as well as national readers interested in the prime field of social science. We aim at providing interdisciplinary research that addresses problematic angles, questioned and discussed by a wide array of researchers, policy makers as well as academic at large. Our policy in this respect is to provide constant review of the nature of the manuscripts accepted for publication, as well as keep our scientific and academic standards and expectations clear, to assure our readers solid quality research and output. This is for the sake of the provision of accumulation of knowledge at its best standard possible

5. General Policies

5.1 Personal Use of Publication

The following uses are always permitted to the author(s) and do not require further permission from Arab Journals Platform provided the author does not alter the format or content of the articles, including the copyright notification:

  • Storage and back-up of the article on the author's computer(s) and digital media (e.g., diskettes, back-up servers, Zip disks, etc.), provided that the article stored on these computers and media is not readily accessible by persons other than the author(s);
  • Posting of the article on the author(s) personal website, provided that the website is non-commercial (personal websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn);
  • Posting of the article on the internet as part of a non-commercial open access institutional repository or other non-commercial open access publication site affiliated with the author(s)'s place of employment (e.g., a Phrenology professor at the University of Southern North Dakota can have her article appear in the University of Southern North Dakota's Department of Phrenology online publication series); and
  • Posting of the article on a non-commercial course website for a course being taught by the author at the university or college employing the author.

    6. FJSS Ethics

    FJSS is a double-blinded peer-reviewed international journal, which is one of its essential building blocks towards ethical and respected academic contribution. In achieving this, FJSS has a set of clearly defined ethical codes of conducts expected of its authors. The guidelines for ethical behavior in accordance with that of Elsevier.     Critical ethical issues adopted by FJSS are as follows:

    1. Clear authorship of the paper
    2. The manuscripts submitted is owned to the authors of the paper, and those whose contribution shaped the structure and outcome of the paper submitted for publication. We urge authors to be transparent about the contributions of authors involved, by the use of proper citations and the use of Credit author statements in case of a project of multiple authors (see link https://www.elsevier.com/authors/journal-authors/policies-and-ethics/credit-author-statement)

    3. Plagiarism and Authenticity
    4. Authors have the responsibility to ensure their manuscript is following the proper citation and referencing guidelines used by FJSS (click here for the APA citation guidelines). Cited and referenced data is not just limited to text, but also images, tables, all visual objects and materials, interviews, as well as secondary and primary references of any form. Self-citation is treated equally under FJSS citation policy and must be cited and referenced in the manuscript without exception

    5. Data Access and Retention
    6. Authors may be asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review and should be prepared to provide public access to such data, in cases if seen necessary.

    7. Multiple Submissions
    8. Authors are not permitted to submit the same topic, in any nature or form, to more than one journal. The exceptions are: previously submitted abstracts, academic thesis submitted to receive a degree.

    9. Errors in Submitted Manuscripts and Published Work
    10. Authors are obliged to directly inform the editors of the journal in case of any discovered errors in their published work with FJSS. This will be followed by either retracting or editing his/her paper.

    11. Field Research and Interviews
    12. The approval of FJSS board as well as a consent form is needed in case of working on volunteers and patients. In case of interviews during field research, simple consent forms may be used when possible, or clarifying this point as a footnote in the manuscript submitted and the abstract approved by FJSS editorial board.
