Abstract
The current research aims to identify the level of mindfulness among students in the individual and collective games course at the Faculty of Sports Science at the University of Jordan and the relationship between mindfulness and academic achievement. The researchers used the descriptive method, as it aligns with the objectives and questions of the study. The sample comprised 185 male and female registered students from the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year, and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) Arabic version was utilized to assess mindfulness. The results of the study showed that the level of mindfulness among the students was moderate, with an average score of 3.26. The findings indicated apparent differences in the average responses of the study sample members across all areas of mindfulness concerning the following variables: academic year, gender, academic achievement, and type of game. However, there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (α ≤ 0.05) in the areas of observation, description, acting consciously in the present moment, lack of judgment on internal experiences, and lack of interaction with internal experiences attributed to the academic year variable. Additionally, no statistically significant differences at the significance level (α ≤ 0.05) were found in the level of mindfulness among students in individual and collective games at the Faculty of Sports Science at the University of Jordan based on the study variables (academic year, gender, academic achievement, and type of game). The researchers recommend focusing on cognitive and psychological activities that contribute to the development of mindfulness both inside and outside the university and suggest conducting further studies that explore mindfulness in relation to other variables, such as anxiety, eating behavior, emotional stress, and thinking styles among university students.
