Abstract

This study aimed to identify the internal legislative determinants in the Jordanian political system that affect the participation of political parties during the period from 1946 to 2020. The study utilized three research methods: the historical method, the descriptive and analytical approach, and the comparative approach. The study reached several key findings, the most notable being that internal legislative determinants significantly impacted the participation of parties in the Jordanian political system, with each determinant varying in its degree of influence. The study also presented a number of recommendations, including amending the text of the Jordanian Constitution of 1952 to include more articles dedicated to the participation of political parties, specifically mentioning the right to participate in elections and the right to form a coalition government; amending the Political Parties Law to require representation from a certain percentage of Jordanian governorates, referencing the stipulations in the 2012 Political Parties Law to ensure that parties do not exceed what is realistic and that the establishment of parties does not become merely a hobby or a means of financial gain; and finally, amending the election law to allocate a specific number of seats to political parties, which would facilitate their entry into the competition for government formation in the future.
