Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the degree of practicing ‘Responsible Leadership’ by deans of faculties as perceived by academic staff at Jordanian universities. A descriptive methodology was employed, and a 4-dimension questionnaire composed of 37 items was administered to a sample of 350 academic staff members in the first semester of 2021-2022. The four dimensions are: personal characteristics, relationship with followers, sense of responsibility, and decision making. The findings revealed that the degree of practice was “mild.” The findings did not reveal statistically significant differences attributed to the type of faculty. By contrast, there were statistically significant differences attributed to the type of university, in favor of private universities, and rank, in favor of deans, concerning relationships with followers and decision making. Considering the results, the study recommends introducing the concept of responsible leadership in educational leadership decisions, within the administration of higher education, and in leadership training programs.
