Abstract
This study aimed to identify the experience of open education and distancelearning. in Syria which was started in 2001 - 2002. To achieve the overallobjective of this study, a field study has been conducted on some programs ofopen education at the University of Aleppo, by using the questionnaire method.775 questionnaires were distributed to students of various programs: LegalStudies - Computers and Information Systems - Management of Small andMedium Projects & French Translation in the open education at the Universityof Aleppo. (716) questionnaire were valid for analysis, a percentage 92.39%of the total distributed questionnaires. The data were analyzed by using a setof suitable statistical methods that suit the nature of the data. The study founda set of results including:1. The internal system of open education that is applied at the University ofAleppo, does not contribute to its success2. The educational system of open education that is applied at the Universityof Aleppo, does not contribute to its success.3. The assessment of the students’ competence in open education at theUniversity of Aleppo is negative.Furthor more the study, has given some suggestions that aim at thedevelopment of open education at the University of Aleppo
