Abstract
This study aimed to identify the perceptions and attitudes of university students towards bilingual education, and to identify the effect of gender in these attitudes and perceptions: the sample of the study consisted of (53) male and female students (25 males and 28 females) at Zayed University. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique in qualitative research and each participant was given a questionnaire comprised of thirty statements that measured their attitudes toward bilingual learning. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted that comprised 22 questions to measure their perceptions. The researcher used the descriptive method to conduct the study, the standard deviation, and (F) value were calculated to analyze the results. The results of the study indicated that the attitudes and perceptions of the students were positive towards bilingual education, there is no significant differences attributed to gender variable in their attitudes and perceptions of bilingual education. The study also recommended the need to reconsider our position - Arabs - towards bilingual education and conduct more survey studies in bilingual education at all stages – especially at university level.
