Abstract

The study attempts to identify the reality of educational researches in the field of citizenship education and there future development prospects from viewpoint of faculty members of the Facultyof Education at Sultan Qaboos University. In addition, the study aim to discover the impact of two variables, namely, academic degree and the years of experience on faculty's viewpoints. The study adopted the descriptive methodology by preparing a questionnaire consisted of (86) items were distributed into fives domains: perceptions of faculty members about citizenship, areas of supervision of educational research in the field of citizenship education, the challenges facing educational research in the field of citizenship education, and the challenges encountering researchers in the field of citizenship education, and the suggestions for developing research in the field of citizenship education. The study tool was distributed to a sample consisted of (58) members of the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University during the academic year (2018-2019). The results revealed that the faculty's members were highly agreed with the importance of educational research in the field of citizenship education in light of contemporary challenges, and that the level of their conduct of educational research in this field was low, as well as their assessment of the level of supervision of research studies in the field carried out by their postgraduate students. However, the highly agreed with the contemporary challenges that required strengthening research in the field of citizenship education while their estimating the level of challenges they encounter during carrying out educational research in the field was moderate. The researchers recommended the preparation of a clear strategy for educational research in the field of citizenship education contribute to directing professors and postgraduate students, who are increasing in number in the college to researching aspects with of national priority in citizenship education.
