Abstract

The current study aimed to measure the level of pragmatic use among students with hearing disabilities in Jordan. The descriptive approach was used. The study sample consisted of (113) students with hearing disabilities, and their ages ranged from (5-15) years of students enrolled in schools and private centres in Jordan. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the social communication skills: The pragmatic checklist was used, which addressed (6) dimensions: expressing needs, giving orders and directions, expressing feelings, Interactional "I and you", wants explanation, sharing knowledge and expectations. The results of the study indicated that the level of social language use among students with hearing disabilities in Jordan was at a low level (2.25), and the absence of statistically significant differences in favor of the gender variable, education style, and who filled out the form. In light of the results of the current study, the researchers recommended the need to include pragmatic language skills in the curricula and rehabilitation plans in private centers. And the need to conduct studies concerned with measuring the level of social language use of children with hearing disabilities according to other variables (such as the severity of hearing impairment) and (cause of disability).
